82-Year-Old Woman Scammed: Fraudster Gains PC Access, Transfers Cash

An 82-year-old woman from Ratingen has fallen victim to an online scam, with a fraudster posing as a Microsoft employee gaining unauthorized access to her PC and online banking. The incident occurred on October 6, 2025, and is currently under investigation by the criminal police.

The scammer managed to transfer a four-digit sum to a foreign account after multiple calls. The woman, however, acted promptly and correctly alerted the police, filing a criminal complaint. Authorities are now warning the public about this scam, urging caution when dealing with unsolicited calls claiming to be from tech support or other official services. Despite searches, no information was found regarding contact with the Polizeipräsidium Mettmann about this specific case.

The criminal police are actively investigating the incident and advising the public to be vigilant against such scams. Anyone who suspects they may have been targeted should contact their local police immediately.
