Aemetis Boosts Ethanol Plant Efficiency with $30M Upgrade
Aemetis, Inc. is enhancing its ethanol plant in Keyes, California with a $30 million energy efficiency upgrade. The project, expected to complete in Q2 2026, aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions and natural gas usage.
The upgrade involves integrating a Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) system, supplied by long-time partner Praj Industries. This system is projected to generate an estimated $32 million of incremental annual cash flow upon completion. The project is expected to deliver a double-digit reduction in the carbon intensity of the plant's fuel ethanol.
The Keyes facility has been operating since 2011 using Praj's ethanol technology. The project has received approximately $19.7 million in grants and tax credits from various sources. NPL Construction Co., a subsidiary of Centuri Holdings, Inc., is handling project execution and implementation.
The Aemetis Advanced Fuels Keyes facility is set to become more efficient and sustainable with this upgrade. The reduction in natural gas usage is estimated to be around 80%. This project is part of Aemetis' broader decarbonization efforts, including a carbon sequestration well project and a renewable diesel fuel and SAF biorefinery in Riverbank, California.
