AGCO Grants Approval for Playnetic to Provide Gaming Content in Ontario

Playnetic's journey into the Canadian market just got a major boost! The company has secured approval from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), allowing them to offer their gaming content to licensed operators in the province. Ontario sealed the deal as the first Canadian foothold for Playnetic.

The AGCO's approval process is notoriously meticulous, but Playnetic managed to clear the hurdles, securing a legal right to distribute games in Ontario. They've already started partnering with regional operators and hope to launch in the coming months.

With their eyes set on expansion, Playnetic aims to crack open other provinces, including Alberta. The latter is gearing up for a regulated online gambling market, much like Ontario's. Alberta's legislation, known as the iGaming Alberta Act, is in the pipeline. Once passed, it will establish a market structure not unlike Ontario's, with a central governing body overseeing gaming operations.

Dan Phillips, Playnetic's CEO, declared, "Acquiring AGCO approval is a significant milestone for Playnetic! This new license opens the door to our first Canadian market and reaffirms our commitment to compliance and service excellence." Julian Borg-Barthet, the Chief Commercial Officer, added, "We're ecstatic to debut our innovative gaming library in Ontario and set the groundwork for expansions across the province and emerging markets, like Alberta."

In the coming months, Playnetic will be attending the SBC Canadian Gaming Summit, scheduled for June 17-19, to network with current partners and forge new connections.

To clarify, Alberta's online gambling regulation is undergoing legislative processes, with the iGaming Alberta Act set to launch a market similar to Ontario's, featuring a central governing body and numerous operators. Expected to hit the ground in Q1/Q2 2026, the timeline for Alberta trails Ontario by a year or so. While Ontario's regulations emphasis on strict advertising and responsible gaming guidelines, concerns about clarity remain in Alberta's advertising and responsible gambling standards.

Upon receiving AGCO's approval, Playnetic is now legally authorized to distribute games in Ontario, setting the stage for their expansion plans. The company is actively partnering with regional operators and aims to launch in the provinces soon. With Alberta preparing for a regulated online gambling market like Ontario's, Playnetic is eager to penetrate this emerging market. The iGaming Alberta Act is in the pipeline, set to launch a market structure similar to Ontario's, with a central governing body overseeing gaming operations, tentatively in Q1/Q2 2026.
