Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner Crash Raises Safety Concerns

Air India, under scrutiny following a fatal Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad in June 2025, has raised concerns about the safety of the Dreamliner in India. The incident, resulting in 260 deaths, saw the airline admit to switching fuel regulators from 'run' to 'off' near the time of the crash, cited as a contributing factor in the preliminary report. Despite the severity, neither India's Civil Aviation Ministry nor Boeing India has commented publicly.

The unexpected deployment of the RAT (Ram Air Turbine), a backup generator, has added to the concerns. Normally activating during engine power loss, hydraulic system pressure drop, or electrical system failure, it deployed mid-flight during an Air India flight from Amritsar to Birmingham, questioning the electrical systems of Dreamliners operating in India.

The Federation of Indian Pilots has urged a detailed inquiry into the electrical systems of all Boeing Dreamliners operating in India. India's leading body of pilots has also requested the civil aviation regulator to inspect all Boeing 787 Dreamliners for potential electrical issues.

The fatal crash of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner in Ahmedabad has sparked safety concerns about the Dreamliner in India. With the unexpected RAT deployment and lack of official comment from relevant authorities, a thorough investigation is now being called for to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
