Air India Dreamliner's Uncommanded RAT Deployment Under Investigation

An Air India Dreamliner flight, AI-117, recently experienced an incident involving the uncommanded deployment of its Ram Air Turbine (RAT) during landing. The Directorate of Air Safety (Northern Region) has initiated an investigation into the matter.

The incident occurred at a height of 400 feet while the aircraft was landing. Despite the RAT deployment, the plane landed safely, and the pilot did not report any related abnormalities. The Boeing 787-8 aircraft was initially grounded at Birmingham but was later cleared to take off and reached Delhi's IGI Airport on Monday.

Following the incident, the aircraft underwent a thorough inspection. No discrepancies were found after Boeing-recommended maintenance actions were carried out. Boeing has since issued a Fleet Team Digest listing previous instances of uncommanded RAT deployment. An officer from DAS (NR) has been assigned to investigate the incident, although the name of the appointed officer is not publicly available.

The investigation into the uncommanded RAT deployment on Air India's Dreamliner flight AI-117 is ongoing. The aircraft has been cleared to fly, and no safety concerns were found after maintenance actions were taken. The Directorate of Air Safety aims to determine the cause of the incident and prevent any future occurrences.
