Airtel's Q1 earnings increased by 43% year-on-year, reaching INR 5,948 crores.
Bharti Airtel, one of the leading telecommunications companies, has reported a robust performance for the first quarter of the 2022-23 fiscal year. The company's consolidated net profit for Q1 2022-23 stood at ₹5,948 crore, marking a 43% year-on-year (y-o-y) increase from ₹4,160 crore in Q1 2021-22.
The growth was driven by a significant increase in the mobile average revenue per user (ARPU), which rose to ₹250, up from ₹211 in Q1 2021-22. This increase was accompanied by the addition of around four-million smartphone data customers, maintaining an industry-leading ARPU of ₹250 for Q1 2022-23.
The revenue for Q1 2022-23 was ₹49,463 crore, a 28.5% increase y-o-y compared to ₹38,506 crore in Q2 2021-22. In India, Airtel's Q1 2022-23 revenue increased by 29% y-o-y to ₹37,585 crore.
Airtel's digital network now serves over 600 million customers across India and Africa. The company has been actively expanding its network, installing around 1,800 additional towers and about 7,500 mobile broadband stations.
The growth in mobile revenue in India was primarily driven by improved realizations in the mobile segment, reflecting higher ARPU due to enhanced service offerings and pricing. Continued strong customer additions, notably in smartphone users, also expanded the revenue base. Targeted sales and marketing efforts, with Bharti Airtel spending ₹1,229 crore on sales and marketing in Q1 2022-23, supported revenue growth and user engagement.
However, Airtel Business revenue saw a 7.7% y-o-y decline in Q1 2022-23. This decline was due to the company's focus on quality revenue and discontinuing low-margin business. Despite this, Airtel's balance sheet continues to demonstrate strength, supported by solid cash flow generation and disciplined capital allocation.
Underlying growth remains steady, driven by both core connectivity and new-age digital services. Airtel aims to enhance customer experience through network expansion. The company's shares closed at ₹1,929.75 on the BSE on August 5, 2025, marking a 0.77% increase from the previous close.
