Propra Transforms into a Fintech-Driven Property Management Solution Provider

Propra, a Calgary-based Canadian startup that initially focused on property operations management, is undergoing a significant transformation to position itself more strongly as a fintech company that integrates proptech and fintech solutions for property management. This shift aligns with a broader trend in Canadian tech startups toward converging these two sectors.

Originally launched in 2021, Propra has now extended beyond basic operations into financial infrastructure. The realization that people did not care about property management without financial transparency pushed Propra to make this transition. Al-Karim Khimji, cofounder and CEO of Propra, stated, "Replacing paper filing systems was good, but not sufficient."

One of the key features of Propra's AI technology is its ability to read documents, extract service addresses, dates, descriptions, and account codes, and generate clean journal entries. Additionally, it parses e-transfer deposit emails automatically, eliminating the need to jump between inboxes and spreadsheets.

Propra's strategic partnership with CENTURY 21 Canada, one of the world's largest residential real estate sales organizations, is a significant step in this transformation. The partnership was formed due to Propra's intuitive technology and understanding of the operational and regulatory requirements unique to Canadian property managers. Todd Shyiak, Executive Vice President of CENTURY 21 Canada, stated that Propra aligns with their vision to support offices with powerful and easy-to-adopt and scale tools.

As part of the partnership, CENTURY 21 Canada offices will receive exclusive pricing, according to Al-Karim Khimji, CEO of Propra. The partnership is slated to rollout over the next few months.

Propra now offers a vertically integrated accounting platform with self-serve tools and full-fledged accountant replacement services. This expansion into financial technology services tailored for property management marks a significant shift for the startup.

CENTURY 21 Canada has a longstanding reputation for innovation and leadership, and Propra is excited to help power the next chapter of their property management services. Shyiak described Propra as a forward-thinking partner with a proven ability to meet the complex needs of property managers in Canada.

As of July 2025, Propra remains an early-stage but evolving startup, actively hiring roles such as Customer Success Associate, indicating ongoing growth and operational scaling. The partnership with CENTURY 21 Canada is part of their strategy to leverage established real estate networks to expand adoption and refine their platform’s fintech capabilities dedicated to property management, though explicit details about specific products or future plans post-partnership have not been publicly detailed beyond this strategic pivot and positioning.

In summary, Propra is in transition from a proptech platform to a fintech-driven property management solution provider, leveraging its partnership with CENTURY 21 Canada to enhance its market presence and future growth prospects in the integration of property and financial technology.
