Toast and American Express Partner to Enhance Restaurant Dining Experiences

In a move aimed at revolutionizing the restaurant industry, Toast, a leading restaurant technology supplier, and American Express have joined forces. This partnership is set to offer more personalized service for customers and boost restaurant growth.

Toast, which works with over 140,000 restaurants, and American Express, the owner of Resy and Tock, which have about 20,000 and 7,000 restaurants respectively, are set to combine their resources.

The partnership will integrate data on consumer dining habits from Resy and Tock with Toast's Digital Chits feature. This integration will enable restaurant staff to access rich customer information directly on Toast handheld devices and POS terminals during service. The data includes visit history, preferences, allergies, birthdays, and favorite menu items, allowing for tailored recommendations and more customized hospitality experiences.

Resy and Tock contribute their guestbook data, which captures when and where customers dine as well as their preferences. Toast’s Digital Chits technology empowers employees to view this data in real-time, creating a seamless personalized experience from booking and check-in to ordering.

The partnership also plans to enhance restaurant visibility by integrating Resy and Tock listings into Toast’s Local app. This integration is expected to further drive customer engagement and restaurant growth.

American Express cardholders can expect special benefits via Toast, though specifics are not yet known. The new features from the partnership are set to roll out next year.

This alliance is designed to give restaurants a holistic, data-driven view of their customers to foster richer, more meaningful connections and increase loyalty and sales, particularly targeting younger diners who are significant spenders in the dining sector.

Meanwhile, DoorDash has acquired SevenRooms to help restaurants grow their on-premise business. Tech providers are racing to join forces with online reservations platforms to drive demand to restaurants. Uber has forged a partnership with OpenTable to allow customers to make reservations on Uber Eats and book an Uber to get there.

As these partnerships continue to evolve, the restaurant industry is set to become more data-driven and customer-focused, offering personalized experiences that cater to individual preferences and needs.
