American-inspired tones debut in the latest offerings from PRS and John Mayer, as they reveal fresh coatings for the highly popular SE Silver Sky, along with the introduction of new Maple designs

The PRS SE Silver Sky, an affordable and popular variant of the John Mayer model, has been making waves in the guitar community since its launch in 2022. Not only has it topped Reverb's best-selling guitar list multiple times, but it has also been outsold recently by the PRS Tele-like NF 53 [1]. However, the SE Silver Sky is back with a fresh look, introducing four new colorways inspired by traditional American fashion.

The new color options for the Rosewood fretboard model include Derby Red, Trad Blue, Laurel Green, and Dandy Lion, a bright yellow reminiscent of Graffiti Yellow, a color first introduced to Fender by Jeff Beck [3][5]. For those who prefer a Maple fretboard, they can now enjoy the previously Rosewood-exclusive colorways of Moon White, Stone Blue, Summit Purple, and Nylon Blue [3].

These new finishes retain the classic specifications of the SE Silver Sky, such as a poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, 22 frets, and three single-coil pickups based on John Mayer’s favorite 1964 Fender Stratocaster [3][5]. The 25.5" scale length, 8.5" fretboard radius, two-point steel tremolo, and vintage-style tuners all remain unchanged.

The new colorways have given the SE Silver Sky a more classic Stratocaster-like appearance. This update is a testament to PRS's strategy, which is not to dethrone Fender or Gibson from the top of the electric guitar hierarchy, but rather to offer guitarists a diverse range of options [2].

The SE Silver Sky SE models are available now, priced at $849 each [4]. For more information, detailed specs, and updates, you can visit the official PRS website at www.prsguitars.com/40 and follow their social media channels, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube [1][3].
