Forest Hills Stadium in NYC Upgrades to L-Acoustics L Series Sound System

Forest Hills Stadium in New York City's Queens borough has installed a semi-permanent L-Acoustics L Series sound system, significantly reducing off-site sound levels during concerts by 10-15 decibels while maintaining high sound quality.

The precision-engineered system focuses sound coverage directly on the audience seating areas, limiting sound spillover beyond the venue. This move addresses common community concerns about noise pollution from outdoor concerts in a densely populated urban area like Forest Hills.

Steve Gordon, account manager at Firehouse Productions, who has a background as a touring production manager, highlighted the "cohesiveness" of the L2 as a key factor in making it the right solution for Forest Hills Stadium's noise control issue. Tim Fraleigh, Firehouse Productions' system engineer onsite for the season, credited the improvement to the L2's cardioid design and L-Acoustics Soundvision software.

Jason Brandt, general manager for Forest Hills Stadium, expressed that the L-Acoustics L Series system ensures the music remains immersive within the venue, allowing audiences to connect with the music on a deeper level. He also stated that the system makes Forest Hills Stadium the best possible neighbors to the surrounding community.

Legendary live-sound guru Dave Rat suggested the L Series would offer the same sonic quality as the K2 system, but in a more compact form factor with even greater sound control. Bloc Party, the first show of a five-month-long season at Forest Hills Stadium, had comfortable low end levels with the L2 system.

Fill sound is supplied by 20 Kara II loudspeakers, and the setup includes 16 KS28 subs for controlled low end. The sound system is powered by four LA7.16 and three LA12X amplified controllers.

Bryan Berge, production manager for Function of Gravity, noted that the L2 system offers a more encompassing, less directional listening experience, enhancing fan engagement with the music. Brandt stated that Forest Hills Stadium's goal is to create unforgettable moments for fans, and with the L-Acoustics L Series system, they are achieving this goal.

Fraleigh stated that the off-site measurement improvement was a "good call" and "quite an accomplishment." He added that the new system provides "great sound" which makes for "good neighbors." The new sound system at Forest Hills Stadium is set to improve the concert-going experience while fostering better relations between the venue and the surrounding neighborhood.
