Angola's 2026 Digital Infrastructure Project to Connect 450M Africans
A groundbreaking digital infrastructure project is set to commence in Angola in 2026. Led by Raxio Group and Laser Light Africa, the initiative aims to bring advanced internet access to nearly half a billion people across seven high-growth African markets. The first phase, anchored by Raxio's new data centre in Luanda, will be spearheaded by Robert Skjødt, CEO of Raxio Group, and Derek Friend, President and CEO of Laser Light Africa.
The project's scope is expansive, focusing on integrating infrastructure, expanding interconnectivity, enabling the edge, and ensuring regulatory alignment. Raxio's data centres and Laser Light's network will collaborate to host and route data closer to users, significantly reducing latency and enhancing reliability. This synergy is expected to bring about a multitude of benefits, including reduced delays, increased reliability, lowered costs, improved security, and advancements in sustainability.
The partnership, which spans seven high-growth markets, will not only bridge the digital divide but also create new jobs in construction, operations, and advanced network management. It will also foster the development of local expertise, further bolstering the region's tech landscape.
With the first phase set to begin in Angola in 2026, this ambitious project marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in Africa. Under the leadership of Robert Skjødt and Derek Friend, Raxio Group and Laser Light Africa are poised to deliver more affordable, reliable, and higher-speed internet access to millions, while also stimulating economic growth and job creation.
