New Passive Subwoofer from Optimal Audio: The Sub 6
Optimal Audio has expanded its aural ecosystem with the introduction of the Sub 6, a discreet and powerful passive subwoofer designed for professional fixed installations.
The Sub 6 features a 6.5-inch long excursion driver, a vented enclosure with a non-turbulent port design (Fohhn NTP), and a nominal power rating of 150 watts. It delivers a maximum SPL of 118 dB and covers a frequency range from 40 Hz to 500 Hz, making it ideal for enhancing low-end support for compact full-range speakers from the Arc, Linea, and Integrato series.
The enclosure is made of high-quality multiplex birch wood, and the subwoofer includes 2 × 4-pin terminal connections for easy integration into audio systems. Various mounting options and color customization, including an optional weatherproof PU coating, are available to suit different installation requirements.
For optimal performance and safety, the Sub 6 requires use with Fohhn system amplifiers and the correct speaker preset. It can be placed in tight spaces such as under banquette seating, mounted on walls or ceilings, or flown using integral M8 inserts. The Sub 6's grille protects the enclosure, and its low profile rubber feet allow for both horizontal and vertical orientation.
Product Manager David Morbey commented that the addition of the Sub 6 to the Optimal Audio ecosystem gives integrators more choice and flexibility in the commercial audio space, particularly benefiting smaller installs. The Sub 6 is expected to be showcased at Optimal Audio's next open days in September.
The Sub 6's driver is protected by Optimal Audio SmartAmp, featuring amplification, EQ settings, and limiters for enhanced protection and performance. It can be driven by a pair of bridged channels on any powered Optimal Audio Zone controller. The unit's onboard WebApp ensures system setup and end-user control is straightforward.
The Sub 6's enclosure is resistant to impact, and its grille is made of durable MDF and protected by an impact-resistant perforated steel grille. It is available in black or white textured paint, making it a versatile addition to any installation.
With its compact size and powerful performance, the Sub 6 is an excellent choice for installations where space is at a premium, particularly for applications requiring increased impact and low-frequency performance from smaller Cuboid and Up loudspeaker setups.
