Annual Pass for FASTag set to launch on August 15: Information on cost, eligibility, duration, and more

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) have launched the FASTag Annual Pass, a prepaid toll payment plan, on August 15, 2025. This initiative is designed exclusively for non-commercial private vehicles such as cars, jeeps, and vans registered in the VAHAN database.

Key Details and Requirements

  • Eligibility: Only private, non-commercial vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans) registered under the owner's name as per VAHAN are eligible for the FASTag Annual Pass.
  • Coverage: The pass is valid only on national highway and expressway toll plazas managed by NHAI or MoRTH. Regular FASTag toll payments still apply on state highways, parking, or plazas governed by local authorities.
  • Cost: The one-time fee for the annual pass is Rs 3,000.
  • Validity: The pass offers up to 200 toll transactions or one year of validity, whichever comes first.
  • Purchase: Existing FASTag users need not get a new FASTag but must update their existing FASTag to the annual pass subscription.
  • Benefits: The pass provides contactless toll payments, reduces congestion and wait times, eliminates the need to repeatedly recharge, and ensures faster toll clearance.
  • Other Rules: The pass is non-transferable, non-refundable, and has no auto-renewal; users must reapply after expiry. Once the 200 trips or one-year validity is reached, the FASTag reverts to the standard reloadable system.

How to Apply or Upgrade

To apply or upgrade to the FASTag Annual Pass, commuters should use their existing FASTag-enabled account from issuing banks or digital platforms offering FASTag services and opt for the annual pass subscription starting August 15, 2025.

Important Notes

  • The FASTag Annual Pass is applicable only on National Highways and National Expressways.
  • The pass offers 200 free toll crossings for up to 1 year of validity.
  • The FASTag must be linked to a valid, non-blacklisted vehicle registration.
  • For those not willing to buy the annual pass, their existing FASTag will continue to work as is.
  • Users will still be required to use their FASTag for regular transactions at toll plazas.
  • The vehicle involved in any dispute is not eligible for the FASTag annual pass.
  • The eligible user's FASTag must be active and appropriately affixed, and the FASTag must be linked to a valid, non-blacklisted vehicle registration.
