Apple Introduces Application Exclusively Focused on Classical Tunes
Revamped Classical Tune-In: Apple's Purchase of Primephonic and the Dawn of Apple Music Classical
Eager to dip its toe in the world of classical melodies, tech titan Apple sealed the deal for Primephonic, a revered classical music streaming service, on the 7th of this month. Reports suggest that an all-new, standalone app dedicated to the genre could debut as early as 2022.
As Primephonic halts new customer sign-ups from this point forward, and goes offline temporarily on September 7, Apple will begin its integration process, merging Primephonic’s adored user interface with additional features. This combining act will be music to the ears of classical buffs, with detailed classical music metadata on display and improved browsing and search capabilities set to become the norm. Moreover, users might have access to search by composer and repertoire, bringing a more immersive classical music experience into the picture.
High-fidelity lossless streaming and Spatial Audio features could be the cherry on top for Apple Music aficionados, upgrading their classical audio journey. In the words of Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and Beats, "We're bringing a great array of classical features to Apple Music, and very soon, we'll deliver an extraordinary, world-class classical experience."
Thomas Steffens, Primephonic's co-founder and CEO, echoed Schusser's enthusiasm, describing the acquisition as a "spectacular growth opportunity for the classical music industry." Steffens emphasized that Apple Music Classical has the potential to make classical music more accessible to a broader audience, bringing together a new generation of performers and listeners.
In an announcement on Primephonic's website, the company extended an offer to existing customers, eligible for a prorated refund for the service and a six-month free trial on Apple Music.
Apple's foray into the classical music realm comes as no surprise, given its massive classical music library, accessibility across devices, and immersive features – high-resolution lossless audio and Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. Intellectual additions like curated playlists, composer biographies, full album booklets with multi-language liner notes, and a Classical Top 100 chart add to the service's appeal. To celebrate the web launch, Apple even released exclusive recordings of Julius Eastman’s Symphony No. 2 and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 2, available solely on Apple Music Classical for a limited time.
As Apple Music Classical comes together, it promises to deliver an exceptional classical music experience within the Apple Music ecosystem. Keep your ears open for the rollout of this magnificent symphony!
