Apple Pauses Smart Glasses Projects, but New Models on the Way
Apple's smart glasses project, codenamed 'N100', has faced recent setbacks. The company has paused the 'Vision Air' project and shelved plans for connected Mac glasses, codenamed 'N107'. However, Apple continues to explore the smart glasses market with new developments.
Apple's initial plans included two variants of smart glasses. The 'Vision Air', a lighter and cheaper version of the 'Apple Vision Pro', has been temporarily shelved. This model was intended to be half as light and half as expensive as the 'Apple Vision Pro', but rumors suggest it may not happen.
Meanwhile, Apple is not abandoning the smart glasses market entirely. The company is reportedly working on a glasses model with a screen, initially planned for 2028 but now expected to come out earlier. This model is likely a response to Meta's Ray-Ban Display.
Apple is also expected to show a display-less glasses model, 'N50', next year and release it in 2027. These glasses are rumored to contain a special chip, play music through speakers, and come with a camera. They are expected to heavily rely on interactions through speech and AI, with a new version of Siri in development.
Despite the pause in the 'Vision Air' project, Apple's smart glasses development continues. The company is expected to release a display-less model in 2027 and is working on a model with a screen for an earlier release. The future of Apple's 'Vision Air' project remains uncertain, but the company's commitment to the smart glasses market is clear.
