Apple Pivots to Smart Glasses as Vision Pro AR/VR Project Faces Delays

Apple, a tech giant renowned for its innovative products, has redirected its focus towards virtual, augmented, and mixed reality markets. The company believes these sectors hold the key to the future of consumer technology. However, recent developments suggest some challenges and delays in their projects.

Apple's Vision Pro project, a lighter and cheaper AR/VR headset, has reportedly faced delays. Bloomberg, as reported by ComputerBase and other outlets, revealed that Apple has paused the development of the internally named N100 model, originally slated for 2027. This pause comes as Apple redirects its efforts towards meta glasses projects.

Meta's success with Ray-Ban smart glasses seems to have influenced Apple's strategy. The social media giant launched two smart glasses models in 2022, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and the Meta Ray-Ban Display. Apple now has two meta glasses projects in the works: the N50, a display-less model that pairs with an iPhone, and a 2028 model with a display. The company's struggle to find a mainstream AR/VR product like the iPod or iPhone may have led to this shift in focus.

Apple's move to prioritize meta glasses projects indicates a strategic shift in its AR/VR efforts. The company's belief in the potential of these markets remains strong, despite the delays in the Vision Pro project. As Apple redirects its resources, the tech world awaits the release of its upcoming meta glasses models.
