Apple prepares to launch a desktop robot by the year 2027, reports Bloomberg.
Apple Unveils Desktop AI Robot: J595
Apple is set to launch a revolutionary desktop AI robot, codenamed J595, in 2027. The robot, resembling a 7-inch iPad-like display mounted on a motorized stand, is designed to act as a person-like AI companion on a desktop or kitchen counter [1][2].
The J595 is expected to assist users with work, media consumption, chores, and interactive tasks by engaging in back-and-forth conversations, planning, and suggestions, much like an advanced personal assistant [1][2]. It will also support FaceTime with a Center Stage-like feature, allowing the display to move and follow people in the room during video calls [2][3].
Siri, the robot's assistant, will have a new, more capable version with a visual personality. Prototypes use an animated version of Apple’s Finder logo as Siri’s face to create a friendly, lifelike interface without appearing uncanny or too human [1][2][5]. Users will interact with the robot primarily via voice commands through Siri, but touch control will also be available [1][4].
The robot will run on a new operating system codenamed "Charismatic", blending elements of tvOS and watchOS, featuring multi-user support with face recognition to customize the experience per user [4]. The robot arm can extend about six inches in any direction to reposition itself and is internally referred to as the "Pixar Lamp" due to the similarity in movement style to the Pixar lamp character [2][3].
In addition to the desktop robot, Apple is working on other robotic projects, including a wheeled mobile robot and a large robotic arm for manufacturing or retail [1][2][3]. Apple is also developing smart glasses, thinner iPhones, and smart home security cameras with family member identification and automated household processes [6].
The J595 is expected to launch in 2027, with a simplified variant releasing in 2026. Apple is also planning to release an anniversary iPhone and a foldable phone [7]. Furthermore, Apple is set to unveil a new Siri version for iPhone and iPad in 2026 [8].
