Apple's M4 Max vs Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2: A New Laptop CPU Showdown
A new battle for supremacy in laptop processing power is brewing. Apple's M4 Max and Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme have faced off in benchmark tests, revealing intriguing results.
In single-core tests of Geekbench 6, the Snapdragon chip edged out the M4 Max by 7 percent. However, the tables turned in mult-core tests, with the M4 Max taking an 8.5 percent lead. Cinebench 2024 tests showed a close race between the two chips.
Under the hood, the M4 Max boasts 16 cores: 12 performance cores at 4.52GHz and 4 efficiency cores at 2.59GHz. The Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme, on the other hand, has 18 cores: 12 prime cores at 4.4GHz and 6 performance cores at 3.6GHz.
The first laptops featuring the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme are expected to hit the market in spring 2026, potentially disrupting the PC CPU market. Meanwhile, Apple is set to release the M5 chips soon, promising a 15 to 20 percent CPU boost over the M4. The stage is set for an exciting showdown in laptop processing power.
