Apple's Upcoming iPhone 17 Air Model: Fresh Design and Estimated Cost Unveiled in Recent Report

When Apple presents its iPhone 17 series of devices in the autumn, it seems there'll be a model that breaks from the past. Known as the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Lite (though it may be named something else entirely), this device promises a fresh design and a radically distinct feel, according to a recent report.

All existing reports hint at a slimmer design than the current lineup, and a new thickness measurement for this phone has surfaced: 6.25mm, as reported by the South Korean publication, Sisa Journal, as noted by MacRumors.

iPhone 17 Air: The Thinnest iPhone Yet

This thickness is in line with other rumors suggesting the iPhone 17 Air will be approximately 25% thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. All sources are pointing in the same direction: this will be the slimmest iPhone ever built.

The slimmest iPhone thus far was the iPhone 6, which measured 6.9mm thick, and stood out as an Ultra Thin Phone.

Should 6.25mm prove accurate, it would be 20% thinner than the current iPhone 16 or the larger iPhone 16 Plus (both 7.8mm thick front to back), and 25% thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, each measuring 8.25mm thick.

iPhone 17 Air: Priced the Same as Plus

The report also touches on the price, stating that it will be similar to the iPhone 16 Plus - no Plus model is expected in this fall's iPhone lineup.

This is positive news, as some earlier reports had speculated that the iPhone 17 Air could cost as much as the more expensive Pro iPhones.

The current iPhone 16 Plus retails from $899, so the new report indicates this will be the same price point. This aligns with a recent report from the Wall Street Journal which suggested that the iPhone 17 Air will likely cost around $899.

We're still in January, so there's still plenty of time for further details to emerge, but if the reports are correct, this year's new-design phone could be a striking change to the iPhone lineup.

The upcoming iPhone 17 series, as reported by Apple, is expected to include a model with a revolutionary design, potentially named the iPhone 17 Air or iPhone 17 Lite. According to the South Korean publication, Sisa Journal, and confirmed by MacRumors, this model will boast a thickness of 6.25mm, making it the thinnest iPhone ever built, surpassing the iPhone 6's 6.9mm thickness. Furthermore, reputable sources suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will be up to 25% thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, which currently has a thickness of 8.25mm.
