Aston Martin could potentially fit the Valkyrie race car with a straight pipe exhaust system.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH, a race car designed for the top classes of the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA SportsCar Championship, is set to make its debut in the 2025 motorsports season. This high-performance vehicle will be represented by the Heart of Racing team, with Aston Martin fielding the Valkyrie AMR-LMH in partnership.
The Valkyrie AMR-LMH boasts a unique chassis, longer and wider than the chassis of the road car, and is powered by a naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V-12 engine built by Cosworth. The race car retains the 6.5-liter V-12 engine from the road car but with modifications to meet Balance of Performance rules. The mild-hybrid system from the Valkyrie road car, however, has been removed for the race car version.
In a move that could make the Valkyrie AMR-LMH even more intense on the racetrack, a straight-pipe setup is being considered for the IMSA SportsCar Championship. This setup would eliminate the mufflers, a decision hinted at by Ian James, team principal of Heart of Racing, during a November test session at Daytona International Speedway. An IMSA official suggested that James should explore this option for IMSA competition, as mufflers are required for racing in other regions.
The Valkyrie road car production has come to an end, but the Valkyrie AMR-LMH race car is being developed with the same spirit of innovation and performance that Aston Martin is known for. The new team for this venture is named Aston Martin Thor.
In the FIA World Endurance Championship, the works Aston Martin THOR Team races the Valkyrie, but for IMSA, Heart of Racing operates the Valkyrie AMR-LMH project. The Valkyrie AMR-LMH is eligible for the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship, and if run without mufflers, it would be louder and more intense on the racetrack.
This partnership between Aston Martin and Heart of Racing marks an exciting new chapter for both parties, and race fans can look forward to the Valkyrie AMR-LMH's roar on the racetrack in the near future.
