Auto manufacturer Li Auto officially introduces the Li i8 six-seater SUV, further penetrating the fiercely competitive electric vehicle market.

The Chinese automaker Li Auto has launched its first electric SUV, the Li i8, offering a range of three variants with starting prices of RMB 321,800, RMB 349,800, and RMB 369,800 respectively. The Li i8 is set to begin deliveries on August 20.

The Li i8 faces competition from the Onvo L90 and Tesla's upcoming six-seat Model Y L. Tesla's Model Y L, expected to be priced around 300,000 yuan, is slightly more affordable compared to Li Auto's Li i8, which ranges between 350,000 and 400,000 yuan.

In terms of size, the Li i8 is larger, measuring 5085 mm in length compared to the Model Y L's 4976 mm. It also boasts a longer wheelbase (3050 mm for the i8 vs 3040 mm for Model Y L).

Regarding range, the Li i8 offers two variants with ranges of 670 km and 720 km, while Tesla has not officially released range data for the Model Y L.

The Li i8 comes standard with dual motors, delivering a total power output of 400 kW and a total torque of 660 Nm. In terms of performance, the Model Y L accelerates from 0-60 mph in approximately 5.9 seconds and has a top speed of 125 mph, while the Li i8 offers a top speed of 180 km/h.

The Li i8 is Li Auto's first pure electric SUV and its second battery electric vehicle (BEV) model after the Li Mega MPV. The company has increased its charging network construction over the past year, promising 2,500 supercharging stations for the Li i8's launch.

The Li i8 will use the latest autonomous driving architecture, MindVLA (Visual-Language-Action). It also comes with ternary lithium-ion batteries supporting a 5C charging rate.

Meanwhile, the Onvo L90, a competitor to the Li i8, has a pre-sales starting price of RMB 279,900 and will officially go on sale on July 31.

In June, Li Auto delivered 36,279 vehicles, marking the first time in at least five years that June deliveries declined year-on-year. In the first six months of the year, Li Auto delivered 203,938 vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of just 7.91 percent.

As of the launch, Li Auto has announced that there are 3,000 supercharging stations available for the Li i8. The entry-level Li i8 features a 90.1-kWh battery pack with a CLTC range of 670 kilometers, while the other two variants use a 97.8-kWh battery pack, with a CLTC range of 720 kilometers.

The Li i8's virtual voice assistant will be available for Li Auto's AD Max models. The VLA driver large language model will be delivered with the Li i8 in August.
