Ford Revives Iconic Capri Model as Electric SUV

Ford Motor Company is reintroducing one of its most cherished models, the Capri, as an electric SUV, exciting car enthusiasts worldwide. A favorite for over five decades, the Capri was last available as a new car five decades ago. However, traditionalists may find disappointment in the new model's modern twist.

Originally introduced in 1968, the Capri gained popularity as a unique vehicle, with its success extended in motorsports and exclusive production for the European market. In its three generations, Ford sold nearly 2 million units, with a record 233,000 units sold in 1973. Now, after a hiatus of over three decades, the Capri will resume production.

However, the new Capri will not resemble its predecessors, as Ford is reimagining the classic nameplate as an electric-only vehicle. The entry-level electric Capri boasts 170 PS and carries a price tag of around 42,000 euros. Additionally, two more powerful versions are slated for release, priced at 51,000 and 55,000 euros, respectively. The new Capri's battery can be charged to 80 percent in just 25 minutes, providing several hundred kilometers of range.

The new Capri will be manufactured at Ford's Cologne plant in western Germany, where the Explorer SUV is also produced. However, there are currently no plans to release the Capri in Australia. The revival of the Capri as an electric SUV underscores Ford's strategy to capitalize on its iconic nameplates in the growing electric vehicle market, following the success of the Mustang Mach-E.

Interested buyers in Europe can anticipate the entry-level electric Capri, equipped with 170 PS, to be priced around 42,000 euros, as Ford delves deeper into the electric-vehicles market.
