Basic Space Debuts: Influencer-Driven Marketplace for Vintage & Exclusive Fashion

Basic Space, a curated mobile app and web-based marketplace, has debuted, offering shoppers access to vintage fashion, pre-owned luxury items, and new exclusive products from influencers. The invitation-only platform, founded by Jesse Lee, launched during SXSW in Austin, Texas, in 2023.

The app, available on iOS with an Android version expected later in 2023, partners with influencers to sell their curated items. Notable sellers include Sophia Amoruso, Steve Aoki, and Emily Oberg, among others. With a collective social media reach of over 50 million followers, the first 100 verified sellers are poised to drive significant traffic to the platform.

Basic Space aims to differentiate itself by focusing on pre-owned collectibles and exclusive products, providing shoppers with a unique and special shopping experience. This approach aligns with the growing influencer economy, with 70% of brands across industries using Instagram influencers in 2017, driving an estimated $1 billion in revenue. However, a 2018 Sprout Social survey revealed that only 7% of shoppers were interested in celebrity or influencer content, suggesting a need for authentic and exclusive offerings.

Basic Space's invitation-only marketplace, featuring prominent influencers and a focus on unique products, positions it to become a digital shopping destination. With a strong influencer lineup and a curated approach, the platform seeks to capture a significant share of the influencer-driven e-commerce market.
