Belarus Mobile Internet Usage Triples, Network Expansion Boosts Quality

Mobile internet usage in Belarus has surged, with consumption tripling in the past five years. To keep up with demand, mobile operators have been expanding their network infrastructure. In 2024 and 2025 alone, over 2,300 and 2,100 new base stations were constructed respectively. By the end of 2025, the total number of base stations is projected to reach around 45,000.

Currently, 3G technology covers a vast majority of the population and territory in Belarus, reaching 99.9% and 98.6% respectively. However, mobile internet speed in rural areas remains low. To address this, mobile operators have been investing in 4G technology, which now covers 99.6% of the population and 94% of the territory.

Mobile connection quality is influenced by network throughput capacity and load. As mobile internet traffic consumption has grown by approximately 40% annually over the past five years, the need for more base stations has become apparent. This is particularly true in specific areas where mobile connection quality needs improvement.

By the end of 2025, Belarus is expected to have around 45,000 operational mobile communication sites. This significant expansion, driven by increasing mobile internet usage and demand for improved connection quality, will help ensure that mobile services remain accessible and reliable across the country.
