BMW iX3 vs Traditional BMW X3 (G45): An In-Depth Comparison of Design, Technology, Interior, and Performance

The automotive world has been abuzz with the unveiling of BMW's latest offering, the iX3. This new SUV marks a significant leap forward for BMW, blending futuristic design, revolutionary technology, and performance that rivals its petrol counterpart.

The iX3, the first vehicle to adopt the Neue Klasse design language, boasts a striking appearance. Its exterior showcases a new diffusor and vertical headlights, with a grille that inverts the horizontal orientation of the G45 X3. From the side, the two models appear more related, but the iX3's hidden door handles and lower-set headlights make it easily distinguishable. The taillights of the iX3 have a vertical orientation, further setting it apart from the G45 X3.

The iX3's interior design resembles the iX, offering a more improved look. Materials in the interior are more modern-looking, and the Panoramic Vision display, reimagined center screen, and fewer buttons contribute to a sleek and minimalistic feel. The Panoramic Display offers enhanced customization and driver connectivity, while the new seats provide comfort during long drives.

Under the hood, the iX3 packs a punch. The BMW iX3 50 xDrive is equipped with dual electric motors producing 345 kW/469 hp and 645 Nm (475 lb-ft) of torque. This powerhouse propels the iX3 from zero to 62 mph (100 kmh) in a swift 4.9 seconds.

The iX3's technology capabilities outstrip those of the G45 BMW X3. It features the Heart of Joy hardware as its brain and iDrive X, a Neue Klasse update for iDrive. The iX3 also offers driver assistance features like City Assistant, accounting for traffic signals.

Moreover, the iX3 uses Gen6 batteries with increased energy density and faster charging, ensuring a seamless driving experience. The overall design of the iX3's interior seems more cohesive compared to the G45 X3.

The iX3 shares only general proportions with the G45 X3, signifying a complete quantum leap forward for BMW in terms of new looks and technology. The iX3 is a testament to BMW's commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of automotive design and performance.
