BMW M3 Production Shift: New Engine in 2028, Electric M3 in 2028

Leaked information suggests a shift in BMW's production plans for their iconic M3 and M4 models. The new combustion engine BMW M3, based on the further developed CLAR platform, is expected to start production in July 2028. Meanwhile, the current BMW M3 (G80) is set to be produced until February 2027, lasting for about six years.

The leaked schedule does not provide information about the future of the BMW M4 after the current generation. However, it is known that the current BMW M4 (G82/G83) will be produced until June 2029, extending its model cycle to almost nine years. After the current M3 is phased out, the electric BMW M3 (ZA0) based on the Neue-Klasse platform will follow in March 2028. The next BMW M3 will be available with both combustion engine and fully electric drive, but market introduction timings have not been officially announced by BMW M GmbH. It is speculated that the BMW M4 will remain the flagship of the 4er family, with a possible electric version in the works. BMW has not confirmed these leaked details and does not comment on production timeframes. The BMW M3 Touring (G81) is expected to be produced until October 2027, lasting for about five years.

In summary, the production of the new combustion engine BMW M3 is expected to start in July 2028, with the current M3 lasting until February 2027. The future of the BMW M4 remains uncertain, but it is expected to continue as the flagship of the 4er family, potentially with an electric version. BMW has not confirmed these leaked details, and production timeframes remain unofficial.
