BMW's Ultra-Rare M3 GTR Resurfaces After 20 Years
BMW's ultra-rare M3 GTR, produced in just three units, has surfaced again. One of these street cars, with only 500 miles on the clock, is owned by a private collector in Germany. The exact identity remains unknown.
The M3 GTR, developed in a mere 12 months, is a genuine time capsule. It features a carbon fiber rear wing, spoiler, redesigned bumpers, hood vents, and an exposed carbon fiber roof. The centerpiece is the P60B40 race car engine, restricted for street use. This 4.0-liter powerhouse produces 346 hp and 365 Nm of torque. Despite its performance, it's lighter than the 2003 M3 CSL, weighing 1,350 kg.
The interior is unique, with different seats and slightly altered interiors. A 'M3 GTR' plaque adorns the side sills, and it comes with a Euro-spec steering wheel. Unlike the CSL, it has a six-speed manual transmission.
The M3 GTR's rarity is unprecedented. Only three production-ready units exist, with the rest being development prototypes that were scrapped. Its survival in a private collection is remarkable. BMW's official fleet now holds the remaining cars, making them unobtainable for the public.
