FBI Awards Leidos $129.7 Million Contract to Boost Biometric Services

Leidos, a leading technology firm, has secured a five-and-a-half-year contract valued at $129.7 million from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The contract, focusing on the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division’s Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program, aims to modernize and enhance the FBI's biometric identification capabilities.

Under the terms of the agreement, Leidos will provide support to the CJIS Division, a critical part of the FBI’s biometric identification infrastructure. Key areas of focus will include the modernization of FBI biometric services through the development and integration of advanced systems.

Moreover, Leidos’ development and maintenance teams are set to continue their collaborative work with the CJIS test, verification, and validation (TVV) teams. This collaboration was initiated through agile methodology and DevOps concepts introduced by Leidos in 2016.

Since 2018, Leidos has also been instrumental in the development and incremental integration of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, a cutting-edge biometric identification platform used by the FBI alongside state, local, federal, and tribal authorities. Notably, NGI incorporates features like the Repository for Individuals of Special Concerns and Rap Back, providing authorized users with notifications of new criminal activities involving individuals in public trust positions.

The contract underscores Leidos’ role as a key partner in advancing the federal law enforcement technology infrastructure and facilitating efficient and reliable biometric data sharing across multiple jurisdictions.

In brief, the contract targets the upkeep and advancement of the FBI’s biometric systems, fostering robust partnerships between government and contractor teams, and promoting critical criminal justice information sharing through advanced technology platforms.

Leidos, as a technology firm, will leverage artificial-intelligence and modern technology to improve and integrate advanced systems within the FBI's Biometric Services program, under the contract focused on the FAST Biometric Services program. Furthermore, the development and maintenance teams at Leidos will continue working collaboratively with the CJIS test, verification, and validation teams, utilizing agile methodology and DevOps concepts to enhance the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system, an artificial-intelligence driven biometric identification platform utilised by the FBI.
