Budget Electric Moped Launched by Teenage Engineering, Priced Lower Than the OP-XY Synth
Forget something as mundane as music, Swedish design whizzes Teenage Engineering are still up to their quirky antics, branching out into other realms with their latest inventions - yup, that's right, we're talking about electric mopeds!
The team's latest concoction, the EPA-1, developed in collaboration with Vässla, an e-bike manufacturer based in Stockholm, is about as Teenage Engineering as it gets: stylish, industrial, minimalistic, and... well, unusual, just like their award-winning instruments, the OP-1 and OP-XY.
If you're familiar with Teenage Engineering, you'd know they have a penchant for lofty claims, and the EPA-1 is no exception. The marketing pitch goes something like this: "It's not like the others - the new Vässlan. It doesn't look like the others. It doesn't behave like the others. It's smarter to own than the others." If this sounds like their usual house style, you'd be right!
The EPA-1 comes in two models, Class 1 and Class 2, and boasts a removable 30Ah or 50Ah battery with a range of up to an impressive 120 km. Initially available in all-black, Teenage Engineering fans will appreciate the chance to coordinate with their new Field System.
But here's the surprising part: the price. You'd think Teenage Engineering, with their history of occasionally eye-watering price tags (OP-XY at $2,299, OP-1 Field at $9,999), would slap an astronomical price tag on the EPA-1. Not so. It's priced at around SEK 19,990 (approximately $2,000 to $2,100), a reasonable amount for an electric moped, and significantly less than the OP-XY.
Many might wonder if they're being taken for a ride, but Teenage Engineering has managed to shake off some of the criticism for their high prices, and the EPA-1 seems to hit the sweet spot of reasonable pricing and unique design. After all, why limit themselves to music technology when they can conquer the roads too?
The EPA-1, Teenage Engineering's latest collaboration with Vässla, showcases their unique design philosophy not just in music technology, but also extends to gadgets like electric-vehicles. Priced affordably at around SEK 19,990, the electric moped perfectly blends lifestyle choices, technology, and the trademark Teenage Engineering quirkiness often seen in their gadgets and cars such as the OP-1 and OP-XY.
