Chewy, an online pet supply retailer, announced on Wednesday it is broadening its pet healthcare offerings through a partnership with digital insurance company Lemonade.
The new collaboration will grant CarePlus members access to customizable pet insurance plans from Lemonade Pet. The companies aim to launch the plans on Chewy's website in spring 2023.
Members can file claims, review policy coverage, track billing, and receive payments using Lemonade's mobile app. In addition, any unused premiums will be directed towards animal-focused charities.
This partnership marks a significant expansion of Chewy's health-related services. The company already offers telehealth services, pharmacy solutions, and Practice Hub, a marketplace catering to veterinarians.
Mita Malhotra, vice president and head of Chewy Health, expressed that the partnership is aimed at making pet healthcare more affordable and accessible. CarePlus was launched to help pet owners avoid financial difficulties when it comes to their pets' health.

Chewy's CarePlus, however, offers accident and illness coverage but does not appear to have a direct partnership with Lemonade Pet Insurance as of yet.
