China's Guizhou Unveils World's Tallest Bridge
China's Guizhou Province has unveiled the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, a stunning feat of engineering that stands as the world's tallest bridge. Soaring 625 metres above the Beipan River, it towers more than double the height of the Shard in London.
The bridge, with a main span of 1,420 metres, is now the longest-span steel truss girder suspension bridge in mountainous terrain. It serves as a major tourist attraction, offering thrilling activities like bungee jumping and skydiving over the canyon, along with a cafe in the bridge tower and elevator rides to an observation platform.
Construction took three years and has significantly reduced travel time across the canyon, from two hours to just two minutes. The project utilised cutting-edge techniques such as satellite navigation, drones, and smart monitoring systems for precise millimetre-level construction. The Guizhou Communications Investment Group led the project, with various co-designers and constructors contributing to its completion.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is not only a remarkable engineering achievement but also a symbol of Guizhou Province's rapid development. With over 30,000 bridges constructed in its mountainous terrain, including three of the world's tallest, the province is transforming into a global leader in bridge engineering.
