CIGA's Innovative Timepiece Mirrors Black Holes' Phenomenon by Absorbing Light
The CIGA Design × Label Noir Black Star watch, a captivating timepiece that embodies a deep space-inspired aesthetic, has been released and is now available for purchase through CIGA Design's website for £1,980.
At the heart of this unique watch is a dial that evokes a black hole, featuring an 8.5mm concave pit coated in Super Black pigment that absorbs 99.6% of light, creating a striking void-like effect. Surrounding this are spiral galaxy patterns printed in CMYK gradients, adding cosmic depth and motion to the dial. A luminous polar-star hand orbits above the dial, serving as the single time indicator with a fluid, gravity-defying movement.
The watch's 46mm case is made from Grade 2 titanium with a black DLC coating, paired with a black fluororubber strap and folding clasp for a sleek, modern look. Its crystal is sapphire with anti-reflective properties, and it has a water resistance rating of 3 ATM.
Powering the Black Star is the Swiss CD-04-S automatic movement, featuring CIGA Design’s proprietary Asynchronous-Follow Technology. This allows a unique single-hand time display that is both intuitive and elegant, with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of about 41 hours.
Each purchase of the Label Noir Black Star comes with custom packaging made from recycled paper, and a handwritten letter from Label Noir. The watch strap also features a quick-release system for easy swapping.
The Blue Planet II Black Star, a variant of the Black Star, swaps out the normal blue color of the original Blue Planet concept for a more mysterious cosmic appearance. It maintains the same 30m water resistance as previous iterations.
