In the upcoming AI Action Summit, Alessandra Pereira Hermida, a student on the Master in International Security at PSIA, will take on the role of the introductory speaker. The event, hosted by PSIA, will focus on the transformative potential of open-source AI and its role in fostering equity, addressing disinformation, and democratizing access.

The discussion will be led by Dean Arancha Gonzalez, Maria Ressa, a Nobel Laureate and journalist, and Vilas Dhar, President of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. Together, they will delve into how open-source AI can play a crucial role in creating a more equitable future, combating disinformation, and supporting digital sovereignty through cooperative infrastructure-building models.

Open-source AI, as a middle ground between costly proprietary AI systems and insufficient public solutions, has the potential to deliver advanced AI capabilities to nations and communities that have been traditionally left behind in the AI race. This approach supports collaborative models that respect intellectual property while broadening access, thus helping to address inequalities in AI availability and influence.

The dialogue will also touch on the role of open-source AI in addressing disinformation by allowing wider inspection and scrutiny of AI models, which can improve transparency and trustworthiness. This aligns with policy trends emphasizing openness not just for innovation and economic inclusion but also for ethical and geopolitical advantages.

The goal of the discussion is to promote a more inclusive future through AI, exploring the role of credible AI systems in shaping narratives. The AI Action Summit is scheduled to take place, with Alessandra Pereira Hermida's participation as the introductory speaker being a noteworthy highlight.
