Oris Unveils the Latest Generation of the Big Crown Pointer Date

Oris has unveiled the latest iteration of its iconic Big Crown Pointer Date, introducing significant technical improvements and a new in-house movement. The watch, first launched in 1938, retains its classic design while enhancing its mechanics with the Oris Calibre 403 automatic movement.

The Oris Calibre 403: A Game Changer

This is the first Big Crown Pointer Date model to house Oris’s own manufacture movement, marking a major upgrade in the watch’s mechanics. The Calibre 403 offers an extended power reserve of approximately 120 hours (5 days), allowing the watch to continue running longer without daily winding.

The movement contains over 30 antimagnetic components and exceeds the ISO 764 antimagnetic standard, enhancing durability against magnetic fields. The movement's specifications include a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), functions for central hours, minutes, and date indication, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.

Instantaneous date change, date correction, fine adjustment, and hacking seconds features are also included, making the Calibre 403 a robust and reliable movement.

Retaining the Classic Aesthetic

The watch retains its classic multi-piece stainless steel case design, suited for both men and women, reinforcing its traditional style with updated mechanics. Additional updates seen in recent models, though more focused on styling and smaller sizes, include new dial details such as applied, lumed Arabic numerals, a rail track minute scale, and the signature pointer date function.

Colorful Updates

The new Big Crown Pointer Date watches come in either terracotta red or earthy green, and Oris has debuted a couple of earthy dial colors of the Big Crown Pointer Date at the Watches & Wonders show in Geneva. The trio of colorful dial models are also available in turquoise, yellow, and lilac.

Two Versions to Choose From

The case material for both versions is stainless steel, and they are available with a stainless steel bracelet or brown Cervo Volante leather strap. There are also cheaper models featuring an outsourced Sellita-based Caliber 754 automatic, which match the color of the pointer date hand to the dial color itself. These cheaper models are about half the price of the Caliber 403 models, at $2,300.

The Big Crown Pointer Date remains a timeless piece, combining traditional design with modern mechanics. With the latest updates, Oris continues to push the boundaries of watchmaking while staying true to its heritage.

The Oris Calibre 403 movement, introduced in the latest Big Crown Pointer Date, not only offers a game-changing extension in power reserve but also boasts a robust and reliable performance with features such as instantaneous date change and hacking seconds.

The updated Big Crown Pointer Date watches preserve the watch's classic multi-piece stainless steel case design while introducing colorful dial options, including terracotta red, earthy green, and several other vibrant hues, reflecting a fusion of traditional style and modern aesthetics.
