Lucid's Affordable Electric SUV to Debut in Late 2026

Lucid Motors, the Saudi-backed automaker known for its luxury electric vehicles, is set to expand into a more affordable segment with the launch of a midsize electric SUV in 2026.

The new midsize SUV, based on Lucid's new midsize EV platform, is expected to be officially unveiled in 2026, with production beginning in late 2026 and deliveries ramping up through 2027. The price range for this new vehicle is projected to start around $50,000, targeting a more affordable segment than Lucid's current luxury models.

The upcoming midsize SUV from Lucid represents an expansion into a more affordable segment of the EV market. Lucid's senior vice president of design and brand, Derek Jenkins, stated that the company is on track to launch the midsize electric SUV.

The new SUV will offer a mix of performance and practicality at a lower cost than Lucid's current lineup. Lucid currently produces the luxury Air sedan and the Gravity SUV, with the Gravity starting around $79,900.

To localize its supply chain due to renewed U.S. tariffs, Lucid has signed agreements with battery cell and graphite suppliers to bring production to the United States. The plants for the battery cell and graphite suppliers are currently being built.

In comparison, the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Rivian's forthcoming R2-vehicles are all midsize electric SUVs with varying price ranges and features.

Lucid's interim CEO, Marc Winterhoff, addressed the impact of renewed U.S. tariffs under the Trump administration. Lucid's teams are actively preparing assembly lines and working closely with suppliers to meet production targets for the midsize electric SUV.

The Gravity SUV lineup from Lucid is expected to generate growing interest, with a more affordable Touring version set to launch later this year, priced at $79,900 USD. No further information about Lucid's plans to raise prices was provided.

  1. The expansion of Lucid Motors into the more affordable electric vehicle segment will not be limited to the upcoming midsize SUV, as they are also planning to launch a more economical Touring version of their existing Gravity SUV this year.
  2. As the Lucid midsize electric SUV enters production in late 2026, the vehicle will not only compete in the EV market with established models like the Tesla Model Y, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Rivian's forthcoming R2-vehicles but also introduce technology and finance innovations, such as the new Atlas Powertrain, in the transportation industry.
