Construction Begins on 133MW 'Energiepark Bohrau' Solar Plant in Lusatia
Construction has started on the first phase of the 'Energiepark Bohrau' photovoltaic plant, a 133-megawatt project near Jänschwalde in Lusatia. The plant, developed by LEAG, is being built on reclaimed open-cast mining land and is set to promote biodiversity and optimise power generation.
The solar park, due to go online in 2027, will feature blossoming strips, wood structures, and wildlife corridors to encourage biodiversity. It will also utilise different module orientations and wind power to maximise energy output. Local farmers will continue to work the land and assist in mowing.
The plant is part of LEAG's 'GigawattFactory' project, aiming to create around two gigawatts of renewable energy infrastructure in Lusatia. Batteries will be installed later to store excess energy. In the second half of 2026, a portion of the photovoltaic plant is expected to go online alongside the 'Forst-Briesnig II' wind farm, with a capacity of 105 megawatts.
The 'Energiepark Bohrau' photovoltaic plant is set to transform reclaimed mining land into a hub for renewable energy and biodiversity. Its completion in 2027 will mark a significant step in LEAG's GigawattFactory project, contributing to Germany's clean energy transition.
