Construction firm deploys centennial Chevrolet Silverado EV for business operations
McKinstry, a leading construction and energy services company, is making strides in the electric vehicle (EV) revolution. With a fleet of over 114 EVs currently deployed across operations in Washington, Oregon, Colorado, and Texas, the company is not only revolutionizing its own operations but also influencing the industry as a whole.
The EV fleet expansion at McKinstry is far from limited to its own operations. The company is installing extensive EV chargers at its facilities across the country and exploring innovative solutions for offsite charging. This approach aims to support its EV fleet beyond its physical locations, enhancing operational flexibility and sustainability.
The majority of McKinstry's EVs are used in the field, primarily by plumbers, electricians, and sheet metal technicians. To meet the specific trade work demands, each vehicle in the fleet has been upfitted with custom features such as heavy-duty toolboxes, bed slides that double as workstations, and onboard power systems for running specialty tools.
McKinstry's commitment to a zero-tailpipe emissions fleet is evident with the addition of the 100th Chevrolet Silverado EV to its fleet. The company's EV fleet includes not only the Chevrolet Silverado EV but also the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox EVs, and BrightDrop 600 and 400 vans.
Joseph Hagar, President and CFO of McKinstry, expressed enthusiasm about the transition to electric vehicles among the company's employees. He stated that each EV advances innovation on jobsites. McKinstry's transition to EVs has been well-received by its employees, reflecting a positive shift towards a more sustainable future.
In addition to its onsite efforts, McKinstry is actively encouraging the broader industry to follow its lead in adopting EVs. The company's innovative offsite EV charging solutions, while not yet fully detailed, are aimed at enabling robust and flexible charging infrastructure away from company facilities to support its large, specialized EV fleet actively used in the field.
