In April 2025, Europe's electric vehicle (EV) market continued to grow, with a significant 27.7% year-on-year increase in battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations. Amidst this surge, the Tesla Model Y maintained its position as the continent's favourite EV model.
The Tesla Model Y, despite experiencing some sales declines in certain months, remained the top-selling BEV in Europe. This trend continued into May 2025, with the Model Y holding onto the number one spot, followed by the Skoda Elroq and various Volkswagen models[1].
The Model Y's dominance is evident in the cumulative table as well, with the vehicle leading the way, having registered 35,192 units between January and April 2025. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3, which has seen a more significant decline in sales, slipped behind the Volkswagen ID.4 in second place in April[1].
The Skoda Enyaq ranked fourth in BEV sales for the month, with 25,540 units registered. Close behind were the combined sales of the Renault 5 and Alpine A290, which totalled 6,800 models delivered.
The BMW iX1 made its debut in the top 10 BEV sales in April, with 19,676 deliveries and a 2.6% share of the market. The Volkswagen ID.7, which saw a boost from strong April sales, finished just 11 units behind the Enyaq.
The Kia EV3 posted 5,574 registrations in April, securing seventh place, while the ID.3 displaced the Kia EV3 in seventh place, with 24,301 registrations.
The Volvo XC60 remained the most popular plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in April, with 5,093 registrations, but saw a decline of 2% compared to the previous year. The Toyota C-HR surged 321.2% year on year, accounting for 2.9% of the PHEV market with 2,864 units. The VW Tiguan posted a 623.4% increase in PHEV sales, with 4,753 deliveries in April.
These figures underscore the strong continued consumer preference for the Model Y in Europe's rapidly growing BEV market. The Volkswagen ID.3 took second place in BEV sales in April, with 6,938 deliveries, followed by the Volkswagen ID.4 in third place and the Skoda Enyaq in sixth place. The Kia EV3 secured seventh place, and the BMW iX1 made its first appearance in the top 10 BEV sales in April.
