In the digital age, staying informed has never been easier, thanks to platforms like Google News. Here's a simple guide on how to prioritize the news sources you trust and want to see more of in your feed.

Firstly, sign up to receive the BEST of Tom's Guide directly to your inbox. Following Tom's Guide on Google News provides up-to-date news, how-tos, and reviews in your feeds.

To set up Google's Preferred Sources feature, follow these steps:

  1. Search for a news topic on Google that generates a "Top Stories" news box in the results (the feature only appears for news-related queries).
  2. Look for a small star icon next to the "Top Stories" section in the search results.
  3. Tap or click the star icon to open the Preferred Sources selection screen.
  4. In the search box that appears, type the names or domain names of the publications you trust and want to prioritize.
  5. Select your preferred sources from the suggestions to add them to your list.
  6. After adding preferred sources, click "Reload results" to update the Top Stories section. Google will then prioritize articles from your chosen publications, while still including some content from other sources to maintain variety.

Alternatively, you can add preferred sources directly by visiting a URL structured like this:

Replace with the domain of your favourite news site (e.g., ). Check the site in the list and confirm your choice to prioritize it in Google Top Stories.
