Darknet Drug Bust: German Police Shut Down Massive Online Marketplace
Darknet trading site shut down by German authorities
German authorities, in a coordinated international effort, have taken down one of the largest and longest-running criminal platforms on the darknet - Archetyp Market, primarily used for drug trafficking. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office in Wiesbaden and the General Prosecutor's Office in Frankfurt am Main, the platform's total earnings were at least 250 million euros. At the time of shutdown, the platform had around 612,000 user accounts and 3,200 sellers.
In "Operation Deep Sentinel," an extensive and successful operation targeting the platform's infrastructure, administrators, and top vendors across Europe, over 300 officers participated in 25 raids across several countries. A 30-year-old German man, suspected to be the platform's administrator, was arrested at his residence in Barcelona, Spain. The server infrastructure used for the platform's operation was also shut down in a data center in the Netherlands.
Raids were conducted on suspected moderators and sellers in Romania, Sweden, and Germany. In Germany, the raids occurred in Lower Saxony, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Baden-Württemberg. Seven more suspects were arrested in Sweden. Seizures included dozens of mobile phones, computers, data storage devices, and assets worth 7.8 million euros. The items and data are being analyzed for further investigation.
A Joint International Effort
The joint operation between German authorities, Europol, Eurojust, US Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), IRS-Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), and the Department of Justice (USDOJ) targeted the platform's infrastructure, administrators, and top vendors across Europe. The operation was carried out in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Romania between June 11 and 13, 2025.
Impact on the Dark Web
The takedown marks a significant disruption in the online narcotics trade and sends a clear message to those involved in illegal activities on the dark web. The operation demonstrates the effectiveness of international cooperation in combating organized crime and drug trafficking on the dark web.

- The community policy should address the implications of darknet marketplaces like Archetyp Market, focusing on cybersecurity measures to prevent such platforms from being used for illegal activities, such as drug trafficking.
- In light of the recent shutdown of Archetyp Market and the seizure of technology used in its operation, it is crucial for the employment policy to include training for law enforcement personnel on the latest technologies used in crime and justice, particularly in the context of general-news events like this darknet drug bust.
