Developer of Monster Hunter Wilds aims to alleviate CPU strain, but cautious about potential effects on total game performance: 'Proceeding with careful consideration'
Monster Hunter Wilds Faces Ongoing Performance Issues
Performance problems continue to plague players of Monster Hunter Wilds, with some giving up on the game due to severe frame rate drops, increased input lag, frequent crashes, and general instability on PC.
Capcom, the game's developer, has been working to address these issues. Title Update 2, released in early 2023, fixed shader compilation bugs and reduced processing load caused by anti-cheat systems by about 90%. The update also added support for super-resolution technologies DLSS4 and FSR4 to improve frame rates and reduce CPU load.
However, players report worsening input delay, buggy hit detection, and crashes, notably after specific in-game actions like fainting and fast traveling. Capcom acknowledged these persistent crashes caused under certain conditions and is preparing patch 1.021.01.00 to fix these issues.
Larger fixes are planned in Free Title Update 4, scheduled for winter 2025. This two-stage update aims to substantially improve stability, reduce crashes, and increase frame rates. Smaller updates targeting these issues will come in the weeks prior to Update 4 launch.
CPU load reduction won't be tackled in Title Update 3, but will be addressed in Title Update 4. Capcom is focusing heavily on CPU, GPU, and RAM optimization to improve the game's performance.
The high cost of PC components, especially GPUs, can add to the frustration when games do not run smoothly. Players are advised to limit the frame rate in accordance with their hardware's specifications to manage CPU usage.
Recent reviews on Steam for Monster Hunter Wilds are mostly negative due to performance problems. Some players are concerned about the potential strain on their PCs due to prolonged high CPU usage during extended play sessions.
Capcom's approach shows a shift towards prioritizing technical fixes over adding new features, acknowledging community frustration and committing to continuous performance improvements, especially on PC.
Meanwhile, Fraser Brown, the UK online editor with over a decade of experience in the gaming industry, continues to discuss his dog and strategy games when he's not editing or writing. His features are often 1,000 words too long.
