DJI Mini 5 Pro: A New Era for Compact Drones

The drone industry is abuzz with excitement about the upcoming release of the DJI Mini 5 Pro. Set to hit the market this summer, possibly in September, this latest addition to DJI's Mini series promises a host of impressive features.

At the heart of the Mini 5 Pro is a 1-inch image sensor, a significant upgrade from the 1/1.3-inch sensor found in the Mini 4 Pro. This enhancement allows for the drone to shoot 4K video at an impressive 120 frames per second (fps). Additionally, the Mini 5 Pro comes equipped with a 48mm medium-telephoto crop mode, providing users with greater framing flexibility.

Safety is a top priority for DJI, and the Mini 5 Pro reflects this commitment. The drone features an advanced LiDAR obstacle avoidance system, a first for the Mini series, as well as omnidirectional sensing for improved safety, particularly in low-light conditions.

The Mini 5 Pro's gimbal supports true vertical video shooting and boasts about 225 degrees of rotation, enabling creative filming angles. Flight time is estimated to be approximately 36 minutes per battery, with rumours of two battery options: a standard and a lighter one that may help keep the drone under the 249g weight limit in some versions.

Communication-wise, the Mini 5 Pro features OcuSync 4+ with a range of up to 25km.

Regarding regional variations, it appears that DJI may produce weight variants to comply with different drone regulations. Some versions of the Mini 5 Pro may weigh slightly over 249g, catering to users prioritizing performance, while another lighter version may remain below the 249g threshold to avoid registration and restrictions, especially important in regions like the UK and EU.

The estimated price for the Mini 5 Pro is around $899 USD, slightly higher than the previous model, reflecting the enhanced features. European pricing is not yet confirmed but is expected to fall between €849 and €999 depending on local taxes.
