DoorDash Orders Surge 20% to 761M in Q2 as Drone, Robot Deliveries Tested

DoorDash, the renowned food delivery service, has witnessed a significant surge in orders, with a 20% increase to 761 million in the second quarter of this year. The company is also broadening its services and trialing new technologies, including drone and robot deliveries.

DoorDash's growth is evident in its escalating orders, which have reached 761 million in the second quarter. This growth is accompanied by the company's expansion into new services. Initially launched in Miami and New York City, the 'Going Out' tab now enables users to book tables at restaurants through a partnership with SevenRooms. This feature is set to expand to more cities throughout the year.

The company is also exploring autonomous delivery options. DoorDash has been testing drone delivery in Australia, Texas, and North Carolina. Additionally, the company has introduced Dot, a 3-feet wide, 4.5-feet tall robot capable of carrying up to 30 pounds of cargo at speeds up to 20 miles per hour. Dot can navigate streets, sidewalks, and driveways, promising a new level of convenience and efficiency in delivery services. However, DoorDash acknowledges that these robots will bring new challenges in terms of storage and maintenance.

DoorDash's total orders have surged, reflecting the company's growing popularity. The introduction of the 'Going Out' tab for restaurant reservations and the testing of drone and robot deliveries indicate DoorDash's commitment to expanding its services and embracing new technologies. As these innovations continue to roll out, DoorDash is well-positioned to lead the shift towards autonomous delivery, as believed by Co-Founder Stanley Tang. DashPass members can look forward to exclusive perks, including priority table reservations.
