Dutch Arrest Two Teenagers Suspected of Spying for Pro-Russian Hackers

Dutch authorities have arrested two 17-year-olds on suspicion of spying for pro-Russian hackers. The incident has raised serious concerns, with the Dutch Prime Minister describing it as 'extremely worrying'.

The teenagers, who remain in custody and under house arrest, were allegedly recruited via Telegram by members of the 764 network. This group is known for systematic abuse of minors, including sextortion and distribution of child pornography. The Dutch intelligence agency, AIVD, tipped off police about the duo.

The two teenagers are suspected of targeting the Canadian embassy in The Hague. Law enforcement officers raided their homes, seizing evidence related to the alleged spying activities. The teenagers' father claimed his son was contacted by hackers via Telegram and used a Wi-Fi-sniffer around sensitive areas.

The legal consequences for the teenagers could be severe, despite their age. The incident highlights the potential ease and low cost of recruiting vulnerable individuals via platforms like Telegram. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof has warned that this is part of a pattern of Russian attacks against Europe.
