Fastned Opens Largest Charging Station Yet in Belgium
Fastned, a leading provider of fast-charging solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), has recently opened its latest charging station in Gentbrugge, Belgium. Located on the E17 between Ghent and Antwerp, this is Fastned's 47th station in Belgium and the 380th in its network spanning across 9 countries.
The new charging station, designed in a sustainable and nature-friendly setting, reimagines a former parking lot. Now, it boasts a re-landscaped space filled with trees and flowers, offering a retreat away from the highway. This revamped area serves as more than just a charging station; it's a service area where travelers can relax and unwind.
Fastned Gentbrugge is more than just a charging station. It's a destination. The facilities include a restaurant, a 24/7 self-service shop, restrooms, showers, outdoor picnic tables, and a playground, making it an ideal stop for both drivers and their families. For those on the road, two fast-charging points for electric trucks are available.
The site's components, including the charging stations, are designed with sustainability in mind. Solar Tree canopies shelter the 16 fast-charging points for EVs, each offering 400 kW. At the end of their life cycle, these components can be easily disassembled and reused.
To protect nature, an underground water treatment system has been installed. Additionally, a "green roof" collects rainwater for reuse, such as flushing toilets. These measures ensure that the charging station remains emission-free and environmentally friendly.
Fastned aims to create a network of 1,000 charging stations by 2030. In line with this goal, the company plans to open 50 stations in Belgium and over 400 in Europe by the end of 2025.
