Eleven Companies Eye Karosta Project as Port of Liepaja's Transformation Begins
Eleven companies have shown interest in the Karosta project, with actual construction set to begin as early as 2028. The development, backed by Latvian and NATO funds, will significantly transform the Port of Liepaja over the next five to ten years.
The process has kicked off with the launch of the first tender for expert services on January 13, 2023. This tender focuses on port and naval design. The call for tenderers will close on March 12, 2023.
The project involves the construction of new piers and berths on the coast where the Soviet army once stood. It also includes support infrastructure and dredging works. Additionally, the development of land will play a crucial role.
Funding for the new military harbor will come from various sources, including local government bodies, national defense agencies, and potential private investors.
With the tender process underway and construction slated for 2028, the Karosta project is poised to reshape the Port of Liepaja. The development, supported by Latvian and NATO funds, will bring significant changes to the area over the next decade.
