Elon Musk introduces Grok 3, a sophisticated AI system, alleging its superiority over ChatGPT and DeepSeek.

In a live-streamed event on Musk's X, the startup bragged that Grok 3 outperforms competitors like Google's Gemini, OpenAI's GPT-4o, Anthropic's Claude 3.5, and DeepSeek's V3 in math, science, and coding benchmarks. The catch? It's unclear how it compares to top-tier models like OpenAI's o3-mini and DeepSeek R1.

The company showcased Grok 3's new features, including advanced web searching (dubbed "deep search"), the ability to code online games, and a "big brain" mode to tackle complex problems. Grok 3 is now available to X's premium members or direct subscribers.

Competition in AI is heating up, with tech giants investing in bigger data centers to fuel AI models, aiming to revolutionize work, communication, and web navigation. Silicon Valley is now facing fierce competition from Chinese startup DeepSeek, whose R1 model raised questions about US AI infrastructure due to its training efficiency.

Musk called Grok 3 a "beta" version, promising to squash imperfections quickly. He hinted at a "voice mode" for Grok 3, set to roll out soon. Aside from X, Musk is also making waves in federal AI policy, aiming to boost his influence in the AI community.

Musk recently led an investment group vying to buy OpenAI for a whopping $97 billion. However, OpenAI's board brushed off the offer. Musk has criticized OpenAI for abandoning its humanitarian mission and urged for more transparency in their tech.

Musk hinted at releasing Grok 2's code once Grok 3 is mature and stable, pointing to his commitment to open-source technology.

The startup's claims of Grok 3's superiority in benchmarks have drawn interest from tech investors, eager to see how it stacks up against top-tier models like OpenAI's o3-mini and DeepSeek R1. The event highlighted Grok 3's new features, including its anthropic capability to code online games, which could potentially disrupt the tech business landscape. DeepSeek, a rising competitor from China, has also raised concerns about the US's AI infrastructure with its efficient training methods.
