Elon Musk's xAI company is reportedly investing $300 million to integrate Grok AI technology into Telegram.
Telegram, the popular instant messaging platform with over a billion active users, has announced a new partnership with Elon Musk's AI platform, xAI. This collaboration, announced on X, will see xAI's AI chatbot, Grok, integrated into Telegram's apps for a period of 12 months.
As part of this deal, Telegram will receive a substantial investment of $300 million in a combination of cash and equity from xAI. This investment will enable Telegram to offer full Grok chatbot functionality directly within its apps, leveraging Telegram’s APIs and platform services for seamless integration.
Grok, xAI’s powerful AI chatbot based on the state-of-the-art Grok 4 model, benefits from this extensive user base to expand its reach within Musk’s ecosystem. The integration of Grok is planned across all Telegram apps, making it available to Telegram’s billion+ users.
In addition to the upfront investment, Telegram will also receive 50% of the revenue generated from xAI subscriptions sold through its platforms during this period. This revenue sharing model aligns incentives between xAI and Telegram for the growth and monetization of Grok AI within Telegram's messaging ecosystem.
Elon Musk stated that xAI's future is intertwined with Telegram's, and this partnership is a significant step towards achieving that goal. The partnership follows xAI's acquisition of social media platform X for $33 billion in March 2025, further solidifying xAI's position as one of the world's leading AI labs.
Telegram's Premium subscribers have doubled over the past year, now exceeding 15 million. With the introduction of Grok, these subscribers will have access to an uncensored chatbot, deemed the most uncensored so far, adding to the exclusive features and functions available in the Premium tier.
This partnership is structured to combine a significant upfront investment and ongoing revenue sharing to ensure the growth and monetization of Grok AI within Telegram's extensive messaging ecosystem.
