Employees Prefer AI Over Managers for Advice and Support

A recent survey reveals a significant shift in workplace dynamics, with employees increasingly turning to AI for advice and support, often preferring it over seeking help from their managers.

The study found that 63% of employees regularly use AI for advice, with 72% reporting they received better advice from AI, such as ChatGPT, than from their managers. This trend is driven by employees' concerns about appearing incompetent (38%) and fearing retribution for asking the wrong questions (57%).

AI's role extends beyond advice, with 49% finding AI more emotionally supportive than their managers. Employees also use AI to prepare for conversations with superiors (93%), indicating a growing reliance on AI for navigating workplace interactions.

The impact of AI on productivity is substantial. 56% of employees reported they could at least double their performance through AI use. However, employees also expressed concern about their productivity, with 77% believing it would drop significantly if ChatGPT were no longer available.

As AI integration continues, companies like Bosch Group, GMS GOURMET GmbH, H&M, SCHUFA Holding AG, Chr. Hansen HMO GmbH, Dornier Group GmbH, and Hessisches Landesamt für Naturschutz, Umwelt und Geologie (HLNUG) are offering jobs starting in October, potentially attracting employees who value AI support in the workplace. However, these findings also raise questions about the role of managers in employee development and support, as well as the potential consequences of over-reliance on AI.
