Energy company ADS-TEC and MVV plan to install battery-backed DC rapid chargers at retail locations across Germany for electric vehicles.

In a significant move to support the growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in Germany, ADS-TEC Energy, Müller, and MVV have joined forces to deploy over 30 battery-buffered ultra-fast charging stations at Müller retail locations nationwide. This collaboration addresses compliance with the German Gebäude-Elektromobilitätsinfrastruktur-Gesetz (GEIG), the Act on Electric Mobility Infrastructure in Buildings, by installing fast-charging solutions that enable ultra-fast EV charging even in places with limited grid capacity.

Key details of the partnership’s contribution include:

- **Deployment of Battery-Buffered Fast Chargers**: ADS-TEC Energy provides advanced EV chargers (ChargePost and ChargeBox) with capacities up to 320 kW, capable of charging most electric vehicles within minutes. These stations are supported by integrated battery energy storage systems (BESS), which buffer and store excess grid energy, allowing ultra-fast charging without overloading local grid capacity.

- **Retail Locations as Charging Sites**: Müller, operating around 950 stores primarily across Germany, supplies locations for these chargers, offering convenient charging options for customers while shopping, thus enhancing user accessibility and convenience.

- **MVV’s Role in Infrastructure Delivery**: MVV undertakes financing, construction, operation, and customer service management of the new charging infrastructure. They already operate a significant network of over 440 charging points and 156 locations, leveraging experience to efficiently manage this expansion.

- **GEIG Compliance**: The project fulfills the legal requirements under GEIG—which mandates electric mobility infrastructure in buildings—at Müller locations. The innovative battery-buffered fast-charging systems enable compliance by overcoming grid limitations and future-proofing the charging infrastructure.

Michael Rudloff, COO of ADS-TEC Energy, stated that efficient charging infrastructure requires innovative approaches. Ralf Klöpfer, Chief Sales Officer at MVV, added that they are gradually expanding the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles throughout the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region and beyond. This roll-out of these charging stations will take place at Müller locations throughout Germany.

The partnership between ADS-TEC Energy, Müller, and MVV significantly contributes to expanding EV charging infrastructure in Germany by integrating advanced battery storage technology with widespread retail deployment managed by an experienced energy provider. This initiative supports sustainable mobility uptake and ensures adherence to German EV infrastructure legislation.

  1. The collaboration between ADS-TEC Energy, Müller, and MVV, which includes the deployment of battery-buffered ultra-fast charging stations at Müller retail locations, demonstrates a direct impact on the growth of electric vehicles in the industry.
  2. The project's integration of advanced battery storage technology, financed and managed by MVV, will contribute to the finance sector's role in supporting the energy transition towards electric vehicles, thus aligning with the technological advancements in the industry.
